Marine commander criticizes Obama administration timeline PDF Print E-mail

The United States' top Marine general has some choice words for the Obama administration strategy of announcing a withdrawal date, according to Wall Street Journal blogger Nathan Hodge.

Hodge writes that four-star general James Conway, who acts as Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC), has roundly criticized the administration's decision to establish a timeline for withdrawal from Afghanistan.  Conway expressed frustration with the prospect of announcing a set withdrawal date to potential enemies. “We know the president was talking to several audiences at the same time when he made his comments on July 2011,” he told reporters Tuesday. “In some ways, we think right now it’s probably giving our enemy sustenance….In fact, we’ve intercepted communications that say, ‘Hey, you know, we only have to hold out for so long.’”
